“Holistic” (or integrative) veterinary medicine is the combined use of conventional and alternative (or complementary) medicine. It differs from conventional veterinary medicine in that it takes a more natural and common sense approach to your pet’s healthcare. It acknowledges the capacity of the body to heal on its own if we remove the impediments to healing. Through proper nutrition, regular daily care, avoidance of chemical toxins, and minimization of emotional stress the body’s own immune system becomes strengthened, enabling the body to heal itself and be fortified against possible disease. It avoids the overuse or common misuse of many drugs, antibiotics, steroids, artificial chemicals, vaccinations, and other treatments.
We treat each pet patient as an individual, prescribing only what he or she needs. Our holistic veterinarians are trained in many different modalities and treat mostly with physical treatments, proper diet, natural whole-food and herbal dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, formulas from the ancient Chinese, Ayurvedic and Western herbal traditions, Bach Flower emotional remedies, essential oils and homeopathic remedies. Physical treatments include VOM chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture therapy, ozone therapy, cold laser therapy (LLLT), and Reiki, among other treatments. We recommend regular check-ups and blood tests to help us keep your pet on track and in balance.
We see dogs, cats, small mammals, birds and reptiles at our clinic and are available for house calls as well. In Northern New Jersey, we do Equine barn calls for acupuncture, chiropractic and cold laser therapy.

We adopted an older dog about 3 years ago. He had Lyme disease and an autoimmune blood disorder. After about a year of taking daily steroids (to raise his red blood cell count) and frequently getting ill (viruses, etc.), we decided to bring our guy to Holistic Pet Care. I am a fan of alternative medicine, so this was a no-brainer. However, the level of service and care surpassed expectations. The little guy has so much energy and has not gotten sick in the 2 years we have been bringing him to Holistic Pet Care! They were able to wean him off the steroids and he has had higher blood cell counts than ever before. I even notice improvements in his gait and mobility after the chiropractic adjustments. I whole-heartedly believe that the little guy is happier now that he is healthier. As dog lovers, we could not ask for anything more!
We needed to find a vet to come to our home to euthanize our sweet kitty who finally succumbed to liver cancer. Our own vet wasn’t doing house calls and Emmitt would get VERY stressed at the vet so that wasn’t an option. Dr. Buchoff came to us last night after work to compassionately end Emmitt’s pain. He was kind and gentle and made an extremely difficult situation much easier. We plan to start using Holistic Pet Care going forward all due to the way we were treated and the way he treated our beloved Emmitt. Thank you Dr. B for everything. We won’t forget how you helped us so quickly and with such grace.
Finn had a wonderful visit today with Dr Mini. She has helped him so much with his ear issues. She is kind, caring and informative. I can’t recommend either her or the practice more highly!
Great, friendly and caring staff. Take personal time to spend with our fur babies and us as the parents. Won’t overmedicate our babies since they are holistic. Highly recommended!
Doctor B is an all around amazing doctor as well as person that will stop at nothing to do all he can to help your pet... Staff is also very nice; they have a good thing going here. Don't hesitate to bring your pet to Holistic for top notch service and care... Wouldn't bring my pet anywhere else.
